018 - Why Most Business Plans Don't Work and What To Do Instead
Hands up if you have ever spent lots of time creating a business plan only for it to be relegated to the bottom of the drawer.
Yes, I get it! When I was working in a corporate role as Head of Marketing and Communications, I would have to present a strategic plan to the board each year.
I would spend all that time preparing – in minute detail - only to present it then file it away, never to see the light of day again. There is a lot about traditional business plans that just don’t work these days.
They are too rigid and have too much detail – and who wants to be constantly updating a plan because if there is one thing certain in life – it’s change.
Don’t get me wrong, there is real value in having a plan. We need one to keep us on track instead of going off on tangents.
But, what if there was a better way? I’m here to tell you there is! My view of planning is to set a roadmap so I can still go with the flow – and it fits on 2 pages!
